New HRM and Running in the Cold
I picked up a Polar RS100 over the weekend and have used it on my last two runs of 3.7 miles and 5.6 miles today. So far, I like the it. The watch and the chest strap are comfortable. The watch is not nearly as big as it appears when you look at it online. My only minor complaint is that it does not store more than just your current run. Interestingly enough, my natural pace, which is very comfortable to me, puts my heart rate around 85%. This tells me that I need to SLOW DOWN on my longer runs. Should be interesting if I can accomplish this. We’ll see how it goes over the weekend.
Today I ran a big loop around Creve Coeur Lake for a total of 5.6 miles in 53:49. It was 35 degress with no wind. I wore shorts, a cold weather long sleeve Nike dry fit shirt with a cotton long sleeve t-shirt over that, a hat and, for a few miles, thin gloves and wrap-around ear muffs. I was very comfortable at this temp. My legs were pretty red from the cold, but in general, I felt great.
